FILMMAKER BIOS
The director, editor and sound designer are a trio from three corners
of the country.
Director & Co-Producer - Sheldon Schiffer
Born, raised and educated in California, Sheldon Schiffer actively
pursues the art of documentary and fiction film-making. Since
1985, he has worked in public and commercial television, feature
development, as well as advertising, design
and entertainment for the internet. The public debut of his first
feature-length documentary, Memories of
Tata, aired on the PBS
award-winning "P.O.V." series
in 1994. This personal film about manhood and death within a
Latin American family garnered critical acclaim for the filmmaker.
Currently, he keeps busy as an Associate Professor of Film Production,
teaching film directing and acting at a Georgia State University
in Atlanta. The Rise
and Fall of Black Velvet Flag is a departure from his earlier
work, this film chronicles a musical trio that, through their
performances, mocked the experience of growing out of youth-driven
punk culture into adulthood and the conformist middle-class.
Schiffer has also completed high-definition post-production
on a dramatic fictional short, Comeuppance, about a
poet's experience with ethnic and religious conflicts in rural
Georgia. In addition, he is a co-producer for Mysterious Pictures,
a partnership devoted to the creation of socially and formally
provocative works of entertainment media.
Editor - Greg Brayton
Born in Alaska and educated in Montana, Greg Brayton edits documentaries,
commercials, industrials and trailers. Most recently, he edited
the feature documentary, The Rise and Fall of Black Velvet Flag,
about a musical trio that, through their performances, mocked
the experience of growing up through punk culture into adulthood.
Presently, he is collaborating with Sheldon Schiffer on his
latest fiction short, Comeuppance, about a poet's experience
with ethnic and conflicts in rural Georgia.
Sound Designer & Music Editor - Jeff Wilson
Jeff Wilson was born in Alabama and educated in Georgia. He
has studied music and film, and has performed in bands and produced
music for more than ten years. Sound design and music editing
came easily to Jeff as he decided to work on the feature documentary,
The Rise and Fall of Black Velvet Flag, about a musical trio
that, through their performances, mocked the experience of growing
up through punk culture into adulthood. Presently, Jeff works
in Los Angeles in audio postproduction.
